It is possible to
filter email centrally by looking at the contents or the subject line
in the header. For some time individuals using Unix have been able to
use a variety of filtering programs and Windows users may be able to filter
if they use a suitable email client (eg Pegasus or Outlook express). However,
this type of filtering can be difficult and there is a demand for a central
service. Whilst universally unwanted phrases are more difficult to tailor
than individual ones, a central service avoids duplication of effort.
Such a service is currently available. Details can be found at Last Updated 8 May 2002. Please mail any comments to C.B.Bayliss@bham.ac.uk
