Blocking Action
Opting out of the Blocking
All users at Birmingham
University can opt out of all blocking implemented by the mechanisms described
above. This can be done by joining the mailing list called rbl-opt-out.
To join, send mail to majordomo@bham.ac.uk
with email containing the following
subscribe rbl-opt-out
You will then be sent a password which must be returned in order to activate
the subscription. This is not a real mailing list and will not be used
to send email. However, our mailing list software is a convenient mechanism
for maintaining a list of email addresses. This is then used by the system
for opting out purposes.
If you do decide to opt out, it is likely that this address will receive
a much greater volume of junk email (or spam). In addition to normal unsolicited
commercial email, you may receive offensive messages, including those
relating to the sale of pornographic material and messages which include
racist material. You may also receive a greater number of chain letters.
Whilst your address
is on the opt-out list, we are unable to receive or investigate any complaints
about unsolicited email sent to it, unless such messages are being used
to carry out serious illegal activity, for example, distribution of child
pornography, blackmail demands or death threats. You may leave the list
at any time.
